FREE PRODUCER TOOL · PHASE CALCULATOR

Check Phase.
Fix Alignment.

Calculate phase shift from frequency and delay, convert milliseconds to samples, estimate wavelength, and understand whether two signals are likely to reinforce, cancel, or comb filter.

CALCULATOR INPUT

Enter Delay.
Enter Frequency.

Use this tool to calculate how far a signal is shifted in phase at a specific frequency. It is useful for drums, layered 808s, bass, stereo widening, vocal doubles, and mic alignment.

Example: 100 Hz for bass or 1000 Hz for midrange.
Enter delay in milliseconds between two signals.
Formula: Phase shift in degrees = frequency × delay seconds × 360. A 180° shift can cause strong cancellation when two similar sounds are combined.

Phase Shift 90.0°

This is a quarter-cycle shift. It may create tone changes or partial comb filtering depending on how similar the two signals are.

HOW PRODUCERS USE PHASE

More Punch.
Less Cancellation.

Phase problems can make drums weaker, bass thinner, vocals hollow, and stereo effects disappear in mono. Use this calculator to understand the timing relationship between layered sounds.

01

Kick + 808

Check low-frequency timing so the kick and 808 reinforce instead of fighting each other.

02

Drum Mics

Use delay and phase math to understand overhead, snare, room, and close mic alignment.

03

Vocal Doubles

Small delays can make doubles wider, but too much similarity can create hollow comb filtering.

04

Mono Checks

Collapse to mono to hear if stereo width, effects, or layered sounds lose body and impact.
