How To Use
The Tests.

1. Set a safe level

Turn the subwoofer and monitor levels down. Start around -30 dB digital level and raise slowly.

2. Check extension

Play 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 80 Hz. Listen for sudden level jumps, disappearing notes, rattles, or distortion.

3. Test crossover

Run the crossover test around your selected crossover frequency. Listen for a dip or hump where the sub and mains overlap.

4. Check polarity

Compare normal and inverted polarity at the crossover frequency. Use the position that produces the strongest, smoothest combined response at the listening position.

5. Check the room

Walk around the room during a slow sweep. Large level changes indicate standing waves and room-mode problems.

What Problems
Sound Like.

One-note bass

A narrow room resonance or crossover bump makes several bass notes sound like the same pitch.

Missing bass at the chair

A cancellation null may exist at the listening position. Moving the sub or chair can help more than EQ.

Weak crossover region

The sub and mains may be out of phase or physically misaligned around the crossover point.

Rattling or chuffing

Reduce level immediately. The driver, port, cabinet, furniture, or room structure may be resonating.
